- There are 2 food shops, a butcher, and Post Office, all in the village
of Lochcarron within about 5 minutes' walk from the properties.

- Lochcarron has 2 hotels, and the Rockvilla Hotel offers very good
restaurant and bar meals. The Rockvilla also regularly serves Real Ale
on hand pump, usually from Scottish breweries. The Rockvilla is located
in the Main Street of Lochcarron.
- A little further afield are the Carron Restaurant (on the south side
of Loch Carron on the way to Attadale), and the Kishorn Seafood Bar (approx.
7.5 miles away).
- The inns at Applecross, Shieldaig, and Gairloch
have all won reputations for their excellent food.
- The Badachro Inn is
also well worth investigating, both for food and Real Ale.

- In the Main Street of Lochcarron is the Waterside Cafe which offers
both sit-down meals and take away food.
- Clisham Guest House & Tea Room, also in the Main Street, is a "must"
visit for its excellent home baking and speciality teas and coffees.

- There is a branch of the Bank of Scotland in Lochcarron with an
Autoteller (Cashpoint) machine.
- The Bank of Scotland is open on Mondays (except Bank Holidays),
Thursdays and Fridays.
- In addition, a Royal Bank of Scotland mobile bank visits the village
every Friday.

- Lochcarron is some 63 miles due west of Inverness (the capital of the
Highlands), and stretches along the north shore of Loch Carron (a sea
loch) after which it is named.

- The quickest route by road for those approaching from the South is
via the A9 from Perth to Inverness, and then via the A832 to
Achnasheen and the A890/A896 to Lochcarron. This is the route used
by most people local to the Lochcarron area when travelling to and
from the south of the UK.
- An alternative, more picturesque, westerly route can be taken by
using the M8 to skirt Glasgow, and then taking the A82 via Loch
Lomond and Glen Coe to Fort William; thence further north to
Invergarry, and then via the A87 through Glen Shiel, and finally via
the A890/A896 to Strathcarron and Lochcarron. This route is shorter
than travelling via Inverness, but is likely to take longer -
especially as you will probably wish to keep stopping to look at the
scenery!

- The nearest railway station to Lochcarron is 3 miles away at
Strathcarron on the Inverness/Kyle of Lochalsh line.
- There is a regular daily service from Inverness.

- The nearest airport is at Inverness (Dalcross), approximately 8
miles east of Inverness.
- There are bus services from the airport
into the city centre.
- Car hire is available from the airport.

- Additionally, most of the national car hire
companies have branches in Inverness and/or at Inverness Airport.

- Lochcarron has a 9-hole golf course situated approximately 0.5 mile east
of Lochcarron village.
- The course is in a superb setting alongside Loch
Carron, with most attractive views across the loch - bring your camera!

- Lochcarron and the surrounding area is a paradise for those who enjoy
walking, whether it be for just an hour's gentle stroll, or
alternatively a more adventurous day's hill walking.
- There are several
circular and linear walks in nearby Glen Carron; one such walk starts
from the Tullich Estate, just about 1 mile to the east of Lochcarron
village.
- A booklet entitled "Lochcarron Walks Guide" is available from

- Well-behaved dogs are welcome at either of the properties by prior
arrangement.
- We ask that you please ensure that your dog is not allowed
on the furniture and will not cause any dirt or damage.
- This is a
crofting area where sheep are reared, so it is important that dogs
should be kept under control at all times.

- For the benefit of other visitors, we ask that you
please refrain from smoking inside the properties.

- In order to make a confirmed booking, we need to have a completed
Booking Form together with a cheque payment for a deposit of 20% of the
cost of your holiday.
- The balance of the payment for your holiday is
then payable 6 weeks before the start of your holiday.
- If the start of
your holiday is less than 6 weeks away at the time of booking, we need
payment in full with your Booking Form.

- Strathardle has 3 bedrooms, one of which is a Family Room, and will sleep up
to 7 people.
- Tarlogie has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with twin beds and will
sleep up to 4 people.

- There is ample off-road parking space available at both
properties.
- All parking in Lochcarron village is free of charge, and with very
minimal restrictions.

- Strathardle has an oil-fired Stanley (i.e. Rayburn type)
cooker/boiler which operates a full central heating system.
- Tarlogie has a full oil-fired central heating system.

- The cost of electricity is included in the price for both cottages.
- The cost of oil is also included
in the price.

- In Strathardle, the Stanley boiler/cooker heats a very adequate
supply of hot water. At times when the cooker may be turned off,
water is heated by an immersion heater which is controlled by a
timer switch located in the kitchen.
- In Tarlogie, water is heated by the oil-fired boiler to the
central heating system. There is also an immersion heater.

- Bed linen is provided and is included in the price for the cottages.
- Towels are not included and you should please bring
your own towels with you.

- In Strathardle, the kitchen is well equipped with an
oil-fired Stanley cooker/boiler, together with a conventional
electric cooker and a microwave. There is also a fridge, a freezer,
a dishwasher, and the usual small
kitchen appliances.
- Tarlogie has an electric cooker, a microwave, and a
fridge/freezer. In addition, there are the usual small kitchen appliances - kettle,
toaster, etc.

- Both properties have washing machines in the
kitchens.

- Both properties have electric shaver points in the bathrooms.
- In Strathardle, there are also shaver points in the vanity units in
each bedroom.

- Both properties have TV and video in the lounge.
- Video film hire is
available from the Spar shop in the village.

Strathardle has a payphone
in the kitchen - the number is 01520 722301.

There is no telephone in
Tarlogie.

Mobile phones operating on
O2
(formerly Cellnet) or Vodafone work well in Lochcarron
village and in many parts of the surrounding area as there is a base
station located at Attadale just across the loch from the village.

Other mobile
networks are not properly catered for as of yet, although there is
limited coverage for the Orange network.
